I was looking through the DePaulia, our school newspaper here at DePaul, and was intrigued by the cover story about reducing our carbon footprint. Tomorrow, April 22, is Earth Day, so it only seems appropriate that we jam as much “going green” propaganda into the media as possible. The article listed many a way to practice an eco-friendly lifestyle, most of which many of us could probably already figure out…check it out anyways.
Now, on a more local note, turns out DePaul is going green lately too. Using energy-saving light fixtures, throwing recycling bins everywhere, and even purchasing hybrid public safety cars, are a few of their strategies towards becoming more eco-friendly. The DePaulia also talked about businesses and other universities around the country and the innovative ways that they are going green. It’s a hefty article, but check out “Celebrating Earth Day in the City”…especially if you feel you need that extra motivation to become more eco-friendly.
How do I feel about going green/being eco-friendly/recycling? Well, I am one of three roommates who doesn’t really contribute to our “recycling” bin. Don’t get me wrong, I would, but recyclables tend to pile up and lay around waiting to be taken to the recycling plant. I’m more OCD than eco-friendly, I suppose. Found this blog post from another Chicagoan who I feel with on this topic. Recycling in Chicago. Too funny!
I leave you with a link to some Chicago events (many in Lincoln Park) celebrating Earth Day. Perhaps tomorrow I’ll even throw something in my recycling bin.
Oh, and go cubs! (7:05pm tonight vs. Cincinnati Reds )
- recycling in kitchen
- recycling on porch
Garbage can = neat
Recycling bin = overflowing mess that ends up everywhere…even on the porch

I know how you feel. I want to recycle but it’s difficult in the city. Also, those pictures are priceless.
Glad I’m not the only one finding it difficult to recycle. Since the kitchen bin has been recently cleared out, i did rinse out a glass jar and put it in today. The porch is still a different story though. Eh, the world is gonna be around for a while longer regardless…at least long enough for our lifetimes.
