Opening day at Wrigley Field brought cubs fans to the stadium early Monday morning. Thousands of people lined the streets as they huddled under umbrellas to shield out the cold, windy rain and await the Cubs’ home opener.
The majority of fans arrived after a prank at the stadium was found by Chicago police officers. Police say a severed goat’s head was found outside of Wrigley Field about 12 hours before the scheduled start of the game. It is believed that the goat’s head is a reference to the legendary “goat curse” placed on the cubs in 1945. The curse is often used to explain why the Chicago Cubs have not won a World Series since 1908.
Despite a heartbreaking end to last season, the Cubs have started this season with hope. The cubs won their home opener against the Colorado Rockies 4-0 after rain delayed the game by about an hour. The win has Cubs fans wondering whether or not this will be the year that the curse is broken. Maybe this will be the year that the Cubs finally bring home a World Series win to fans of the North Side.
The Cubs’ next game is at home today at 1:20P.M. against the Colorado Rockies.
